What is known about FS Tau:

FS Tau is a multistellar system, FS Tau A: a T Tauri binary system, composed of two young stars orbiting each other. FS Tau B: a protostar surrounded by a protoplanetary disk, which will become a T Tauri star and eventually a planetary system.

According to NASA, protostars are known to expel streams of energized material in the form of fast-moving columns, called jets, and FS Tau B provides a striking example of this phenomenon. The protostar is the source of an unusual double-sided asymmetric jet, visible here in blue. Its asymmetric structure may be due to the difference in speeds at which mass is ejected from the object. FS Tau B is also classified as a Herbig-Haro object. Herbig-Haro objects form when jets of ionized gas ejected by a young star collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust at high speeds, creating bright patches of nebulosity.
